PLEASANT SCREAMS FOR FANS OF HORROR!
In 1991, Citadel Press commissioned authors William Schoell and James Spencer to write a book about the making of the first six blockbuster Nightmare on Elm Street films. The official history was written with the cooperation of New Line Cinema. It included behind-the-scenes photos and interviews with actors, directors, and production personnel, as well as synopsis of the storylines and more.
While writing the NIGHTMARES ON ELM STREET comic book series for Innovation Comics, Andy Mangels had amassed a very thorough set of research materials on the history of Freddy Krueger. Mangels was enlisted to help with various elements of the book, which was originally to have also featured material on the comic book series.
Due to space considerations, that comic book material was cut out, but three contributions by Mangels were utilized in the book. Mangels recieved credit, and a thanks in the Acknowledgments. The three segments were:
* "Body Count: Who Gets Hit and How" (page 156) was a necrology of Freddy's film victims;
* "Map of Springwood" and "Key to Map of Springwood" (pages 210-211) were a guide to the various houses and buildings seen in the film, as well as their addresses and occupants;
* "The House Where Freddy Lives" (page 211) was an essay about Freddy Krueger's home.
